Nettuno and sustainability, a concrete relationship

10/03/2022

One of the greatest entrepreneurial challenges facing companies today is that of sustainability, understood as a 360° commitment to safeguarding social, economic and environmental well-being. For the most far-sighted entrepreneurs, creating value means implementing growth plans that manage to maintain a perfect balance between the protection of the ecosystem, social equity, ethics and economic development.

Nettuno has been working towards this goal for years, linking its idea of expansion and success to its most stringent responsibilities towards the environment and people. Green practices are the fulcrum around which company decisions revolve, and our efforts go in the direction of increasingly cutting-edge solutions that maximise sustainability and minimise the environmental impact of the entire production chain.

Sustainability as a guiding value

Our commitment is based on the awareness that every company is part of a context from which it draws essential resources and on which it has an impact with every choice it makes, inevitably changing the future of the territory and the community in which it operates. Doing business in a "sustainable" way therefore means aiming to meet the needs of the present, while trying not to compromise the possibilities of future generations.

Having a vision of sustainable business therefore implies maintaining a constant focus on the effects of company choices in the short and medium term, but also in the long term. Success is achieved in practice when we manage to keep in balance

- social sustainability, i.e. the ability to guarantee the equality, security, cultural integrity and quality of life of the people involved in doing business

- economic sustainability, i.e. the ability of a company to create value and ensure lasting prosperity that substantially improves people's lives

- environmental sustainability, i.e. the assumption of responsibility for the planet we live on and its natural resources, which belong to everyone and which it is the duty of both individuals and companies to protect.

Nettuno's sustainability mission involves not only management and employees, but also external partners, customers and suppliers. In 2006 Nettuno joined the United Nations Global Compact, pledging to adopt and promote ten social and environmental principles relating to labour standards, the fight against corruption and protection of the ecosystem.

But that's not all: we are also committed to implementing all the best practices that bring us closer to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals contained in the UN's 2030 Agenda, drawn up in 2015 and called "Transforming our world. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development'.

Our strategies include a smart use of energy and natural resources, as well as a drive for innovation that contributes both to a greener world and to the healthy and sustainable socio-economic development of our host community.

Transparent and shared environmental sustainability

For Nettuno, bringing environmental sustainability into the company means adopting an organisation and a management structure that can constantly monitor the company's impact on the ecosystem. For us, it is also essential that proclamations about sustainability are followed by concrete actions and an action plan that can be applied to reality.

There are many companies that, following the green trend, use their commitment to sustainability as a marketing strategy, in what is known as 'greenwashing'. It is therefore essential that our company's commitment to the environment and minimising its environmental impact is evident, transparent and measurable through objective indicators, such as compliance with regulations and standards (national and international) or specific internal parameters, but honestly shared with the team and the community.

Our responsibility towards the environment

Our approach to sustainability starts with very concrete steps towards clear and achievable goals. To reduce our impact on the planet, we have created processes that use natural resources responsibly, that reduce energy waste and waste generation, and that create a circular economy with recycling and reuse at its core.

More specifically, we have invested in the purchase of high-performance machinery and equipment, which allow us to optimise both production times and energy consumption in our plants. The intelligent management of our workflows also enables us to drastically reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere and to significantly reduce the production of waste and production waste.

We are also continuing a gradual transition from traditional energy resources to the use of systems for the production of energy from alternative sources, as, for example, with the installation of a photovoltaic system 12 years ago. Product innovation is also at the heart of our efforts: the specialists in our R&D department develop Nettuno's hand cleansing, protection and care products following the most advanced concepts of environmental protection, which can meet the approval of the most demanding customers who are most sensitive to these incredibly topical issues.

To help our users create a health and sustainability culture within the company, we try to inform, convey our values and encourage a zero waste philosophy. For example, we create dispensers and dispensers that make the product last longer and dispense only the amount of cream, paste or cleanser that is strictly necessary with each use. We also produce practical refills for dispensers, which reduce waste production and optimise disposal costs, but we also make sure that we use environmentally friendly, organic, recycled or recyclable materials in our packaging and formulations.

Logistics should also always be part of a sound ecological transition process, so we try to facilitate the transport and storage of our solutions by making flexible and extra light bags and packaging.

Becoming a true industry leader for us is not only about maintaining our high quality standards, but also about leaving a positive mark on our present and building value for the future.
